Tue, Aug 13-Overnight Flight, arrived around 11:30 am Dublin time, made way to AirBnB
Wed, A 14 -Day 2 Dublin, lots of walking in sunshine, then a 10 minute surprise rainstorm, trying to get used to big city hard surfaces and scads of people.
Thu, A 15-Day 3, Dublin. Tram and train to Howth for a fairly awesome coastal cliff walk, dolphins, but busy with many hikers.
Fri, A 16-Day 4 Dublin, leisurely walks through the gaol and National Art Gallery….feeling a bit tired…..they told us begging was once illegal and that the youngest prisoner for begging was 3 years old (what kind of cretans would do such…..), and the prison was designed to hold 1000 people, but at one time it had 9000 inmates…..gotta be careful about what I say just in case the nastiness is innate….
Sat, A 17-Day 5, Dublin, long hike from Dun Laoghaire to Killiney and back. Awesome weather, should have worn shorts and sandals, but didn’t…duh
Sun, A 18-Day 6, Dublin, visited the Irish Emigration Museum, trying to get a better understanding of why my grandparents left for North America around 1920. Interesting there’s a whole museum dedicated to emigration, because so many Irish wanted to get out!!!! Famine, lack of jobs, religious persecution and nonsense, nationalism, oppressive laws….no wonder people would want to risk everything to get out.
Mon, A 19-Day 7 Dublin, Botanical gardens and Glasnevin National Cemetery – a cemetery with a cafe and gift shop, if you can imagine….then St Stephen’s Mall. Bus, tram, and rail systems are great and easy here. Off to Kinsale tomorrow.
