2025 – Kenya – Nairobi

4-May 8-Nairobi – WeddingPrayers and Temple at Night “Day 3 First day in Nairobi. Kathryn’s friend’s wedding Mendhi brunch. We had to switch hotels in the afternoon. Crazy loud construction two feet from our room and some other issues. Went to the temple in the evening for the wedding prayers. So many beautiful, colourful outfits at the wedding events”

5-May 9-Nairobi – 6:30am to  Nairobi National Park, Wedding festivities start 6pm “Day 4 … Nairobi National Park, Sheldrake Elephant Orphanage in the park and the giraffe centre just outside the park. The love and dedication at the elephant orphanage is beautiful. They slowly reintroduce them to the wild when they are about 10 years old. They move to a more open area of the centre open to the park and can come and go as they please until they are ready to move out and find their own way. Because there are so many released elephants in the park they are accepted. Some elephants return home to visit the centre years later to show off their young or if they need help. Sometimes they bring injured wild elephants back home to the centre where they know they will be helped…tissue please 🥲. The park safari was amazing 💚 The wedding ceremony in the evening…beautiful.”

6-May 10-Nairobi-Wedding festivities start 7pm “Day 5 … Got to sleep in and have a slower day. Walked to the mall for lunch. That was an experience … no sidewalks, crazy traffic, so many people, no discernable traffic rules I stuck like glue to the local person in front of me when crossing roads and Wedding party in the evening. I have never seen a party like that. The dance floor filled up on the first song and stayed that way to the last song. Everyone knew the songs and dance moves from the movies”

7-May 11-Nairobi-3 hour city tour “Day 6 … Slept in after a late night at the wedding. We had a jeep city tour of Nairobi and spent a few hours at the Nairobi National Museum. They have guided tours so we had our own guide – a lovely, super knowledgeable college student. Torrential downpour started just before we left. The lights went out for a minute or so in the whole city. The roads turned into rivers. Had a nice Mother’s Day dinner at the hotel. Best tasting meal I’ve had in awhile Happy Mother’s Day everyone

“Day 13 … drive from Masai Mara back to Nairobi for a midnight flight to Amsterdam. Spent some time at the pool before heading to the airport. Lunch at The Carnivore restaurant, which had a surprisingly good selection of vegetarian options. Goodbye pictures of the beautiful artwork at Engai Lodge. Thank you to Jafar and Sense of Africa for an amazing experience.”
