Tue, S 3-Day 22, after a great night’s sleep, a great hotel breakfast, then 2.5 hours on a train to Dublin, and another 2 hours on a bus, we made it to Belfast, which so far seems like a very big city. Nice quiet BnB and probably the best food we’ve had this trip at a nearby restaurant near Queens University….things are looking good!!!!
Wed, S 4 – Day 23, Belfast. Our BnB is very near to the Botanical gardens, so we started there then followed the river downtown. Then to Dundonald cemetery and found Lisa’s great grandmother’s grave, which also houses her son-in-law, apparently. Couldn’t find the others, probably unmarked, but recorded as being there somewhere.
Thu, S 5 – Day 24, Belfast. Wandered around, took most of the Hop on Hop off tour, then spent a bit of time in the Public Records Office looking up, and finding, some info on ancestors. Then a walk to York Road, looking for Granny Daisy’s home and the places where Lisa’s mom and sisters were born. It’s no wonder they left…..
Fri, S 6 – Day 25, Belfast. Seem to now kinda sorta maybe understand the Metro bus system and made our way to Belfast Castle and Cave Hill. We hiked the green trail, apparently 7.2 km, but mostly up by 1200 feet. Another blue sky day…….because of us being here, of course.
Sat, S 7 – Day 26, Belfast. Took another all-day bus tour……and it turned out to be mostly good. Giants Causeway and The Dark Hedge.
Sun, S 8 – Day 27, still Belfast. Another nice hike through the Botanical gardens and Ormeau Park on our way to the Titanic Museum and City Hall.
Mon, S 9 – Day 28, last day in Belfast. Got to the Ulster Museum, the Linen Hall Library, and Stormont legislature – even sat in on a decision to pay government contractors on time…..surprisingly a thing that they weren’t doing……
